  • BHARATANATYAM EXAMS
    Over 50 students from Encee Academy were awarded a distinction and merit in their annual OEBL exams.
     
  • AN INTRODUCTION TO ODISSI DANCE
    In this beginners workshop led by Katy Ryan, participants learnt basic moves of this Classical Indian dance style from the Eastern state of Orissa. Odissi is characterised by its sculpturesque quality, blending lyrical body movement with rhythmic footwork and detailed hand gestures. Over 15 students took part in this workshop.
     
  • APPLE MAC EVENT
    Heenal Amin performed a classical Kathak item for the Apple Mac store, 8 June in Oxford Street Circus for the first ever Bollywood theme event at the store. The purpose of the event was to inspire and educate people about South Asian Dance and Bollywood music.
     
  • KINGSBURY ECO FESTIVAL
    An event organized by friends of Eaton Grove Park celebrated their first Eco – Cultural festival on the 7 June 2009. Encee Bollywood students performed a medley of Bollywood and Folk dance items. The event provided an opportunity for local residents, especially the children to come together and share the -Diverse Cultures in Queensbury.Guests included The Mayor of Brent, Brent North MP, Councillors, Officers from Brent Council, Community organisations and residents within the borough.
     
  • FPA LADIES NIGHT
    Patidar Women-s Group held its launch event on Saturday 16th May 2009. This was an all-women-s event to help start the group. It was attended by 200 women and entertainment was in the form dinner & dance. Amongst the guest were Cllr. Anjana Patel, Lead Member for Equalities at London Councils and Cllr. Kanta Mistry of Brent, who are good role models for Indian women.

    The group aims to improve the quality of life of Indian women, to combat social disadvantage and promote social inclusion, to raise awareness of health & wellbeing, to empower their confidence, use of technology, all this to be done through talks/seminars, training, focus groups, social & cultural activities at Patidar House in Wembley. It is refreshing to see that Indian women have taken the bold step of organising themselves as a force to address all the aforementioned issues. The group managed to raise some funds for a local charity.
     
  • 24 CHOVIS GHAM YOUTH DANCE AND MUSIC CLASSES
    24 Chovis Gham launched their free dance and music classes on 29 April at Patidar House The classes will provide young people to engage in a healthy recreational activity: South Asian Dance Classes and Indian Dhol Drumming classes. In total 40 young people have signed up to the classes at Patidar House. This event has been funded and supported by Grass Routes Grant North West London Community Foundation.
     
  • MAYOR GALA EVENT
    Binal-s 15 Bollywood students, performed at the Mayor-s Musical Gala at Brent Town Hall on the 25 April 2009 - an event to celebrate Councillor Ralph Fox-s successful year as the Mayor of Brent. The prestigious event celebrated young talent within the borough. The event had over 1000 people attend.
     
  • Brent-s Youth Add Vocal Beats To Genre-Bending Concert
    Over 30 young people from Brent-s Encee Academy of Performing Arts will take part in the world-s first kathak beatbox choir, Urban Vani, as part of Circa at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre on 28-29 March. Created by Southbank Centre artists in residence, Gauri Sharma Tripathi and Shlomo, Urban Vani unites the percussive vocals of kathak and beatbox in a unique and exhilarating performance.

    This segment of the event is the result of a 12-week project, funded by the Learning and Skills Council and managed by Akademi, which will allow its young participants to attain an Arts Award. Accredited by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority, the Arts Award is a national qualification which supports those aged 11 to 25 in developing as artists and arts leaders.
     
  • Brent-s Budding Entrepreneurs
    ABi Associates in Partnership with Federation of Patidar Associations on the 24 March 2009 launched the youth enterprise competition for 14-19 year olds living in the London Boroughs of Brent, Harrow and Ealing.

    The launch took place at the Dragons Den Enterprising Youth Event in Wembley attended by local school students, entrepreneurs and business support professionals. They heard from three leading youth entrepreneurs about the challenges and success of starting their own small business. The event was supported by Brent Council and the London Development Agency.

    Sujan Shah, founder of Carrier Bag Shop, Rakhi Sood who founded the Rakhi Sood-s Dance Academy and Jyoti Bhanderi, co-founder of Posh Nosh Caddy all spoke about their passion, challenges and success of starting and growing their own small business.

    5 Budding entrepreneurs for Clairemont High School pitched there unique ideas. Ranging from a peel able highlighters to a teacher-s online computer messenger website.

    The Enterprising Youth competition will close on 20th June and the winner announced on 23rd July. Vijay Amin, ABi-s Managing Director stated that learning about enterprise in schools and colleges is gaining popularity as more and more young people see successful entrepreneurs as role models they look up to.
     
  • Brent Youth Services, Bollywood Classes
    As part of Brent Youth Service - Extended Schools Project, Encee Academy is offering free Bollywood and South Asian Dance classes at Copland School and Kingsbury High School. Brent Youth Service aims to provide informal, educational and social opportunities for children and young people that are challenging drive their energy into positive activities and raise their aspiration levels. Jyoti Bhanderi from Encee Academy commented, Encee believes partnership working develops cohesions, understanding of other cultures and their art, creating new art forms and strengthens the organisation.Project is started in January 2009.
